P a g e | 14 A widely recognized tool that is taken in consideration by SERA consortium is the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) by Davies (1983) . T h i s t o o l i s c o n s id e r e d t ot o be valuable as it could measure the effectiveness of the SERA programme in terms of empathy. The IRI go through 28-items to measure the empathy of the subjects, in SERA case the learners. Using a 4-point Likert scale which ranges from ‘Does not describe me well’ to ‘Describes me very well’ , the sub-scales delve into the perspective taking, fantasy, empathic concern and personal distress. For users to assess the effectiveness of SERA programme, the IRI test should be delivered before and upon conclusion of each cycle. The pre- and post-testing should indicate the difference in the levels of empathy of the learners before and after delivering SERA programme.
